Candre & Metallique Sconces
2008
Debuting at the 2008 Kitchen and Bath Industry Show, the Candre and Metallique task sconces feature inset back plates to coordinate with Robern decorative framed cabinets. I designed these lights, along with support from the Robern development team, to meet Title 24 energy efficiency standards, and provide warm Kelvin temperature light output suitable for bathroom grooming. Their luxury aesthetic and use and reflexive glass back plates makes their design work well within luxury bathrooms.

Large detail photo of the fixture shows the Tinted Grey Mirror version. Small photos show additional versions (from top to bottom) – white back-painted glass, brushed nickel, chrome.

NEW CONTEMPORARY SCONCES COMPLEMENT CANDRE™ AND MÉTALLIQUE™ FRAMED CABINETS

The interplay of layered glass, geometric shapes and reflective or back-painted surface finishes characterize both cabinet and sconce designs

BRISTOL, Pa. – May 8, 2007 – The ROBERN Candre and Métallique framed cabinet designs share a sleek, contemporary design that is dominated by the effects of layered glass and mirrors. A new sconce, launched at the 2008 Kitchen/Bath Industry Show, underscores these common transitional design features and takes them into a more contemporary direction. The same cylindrical lens is complemented by plates that match the specific styles of each the Candre and the Metallique collections, giving the sconces a vertical, slim and elegant look.
The signature design feature of the Candre collection of cabinets and wall mirrors is the highly reflective, polished glass panels that enhance the luxurious aesthetic of the layered frame. The layered effect of metal, combined with glass and exposed edges, reinforces the overall design statement. The back plate of the sconce mimics this exact look in the collections own two finishes: tinted grey and white.
Contemporary in its narrow proportions, the sconce is also a natural complement to the glamorous Métallique collection. The aluminum-plated Polished Chrome and Brushed Nickel finishes enhance the crisp, exposed edges and the overlapping layers of the frame. These details work dynamically with the dramatic look of the Art Deco-inspired cabinets.
The sconces were designed to match the collections’ respective framed cabinets but make an amazing design statement of their own in many transitional or contemporary environments.
As opposed to most sconces, which typically use incandescent or halogen bulbs, the Candre and Metallique sconces use fluorescent bulbs. These bulbs are not only energy-saving but provide appropriate task lighting that is ideal for grooming and make-up application.
